Python Job: Data Scientist

What's more fun; building new stuff or maintaining old code? At Kontali we're building a shiny new data platform and you'll play a key role in systemizing the world of aquaculture and fisheries.

The sea covers more than 70% of the earth's surface and is an important source of industry, transport and leisure. There are millions of resources, and a myriad of data and information about seafood waiting to be discovered, analysed and brought to life.

We are leading the way within systemisation and understanding of such resources and as a data scientist you will play a key role in developing models appropriate for the problem at hand using machine learning, statistical methods, optimisation methods and other techniques where this applies. To facilitate this we are building a data platform to ingest, process and present our vast amount of information and insights. Contributing to our platform by preparing data for predictive and prescriptive modelling, automating model processing and finding hidden patterns in large datasets will be a major part of your role at Kontali.

In order to sustainably feed the world’s growing population with a healthy, lean protein, the aquaculture and fisheries’ role is of the utmost importance. Kontali has become a trusted provider of independent and objective information to the seafood industry. We are favoured by a growing client base from all corners of the world to analyse, interpret and understand their challenges in different areas of the industry. With the data you systemise our world-leading seafood experts can provide even better insights into one of the most important industries for a sustainable future.

You will be a part of our fast growing technology department where we are strong believers in self-organizing teams delivering high quality software frequently. We are constantly looking for ways to improve both the team and the team members and we strive to be a little bit better tomorrow than we was yesterday. Agility is the name of the game and working software will always be the primary measure of progress.

Currently we have 2 data scientists in our Tech department, together with 2 data engineers, 3 developers, 1 product manager and a CTO. Our data scientists speak primarily Python, R and SQL, but we are a polyglot team skilled in most languages that compiles down to machine code. We would love if you have some experience in ETL and databases (both relational and non-relational), or tools like Tensorflow, MLflow, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Airflow or other related technologies.

Working in a team at Kontali means that you will not be placed in front of a computer, headphones on and crunching code on your own. There will be times when that is needed, but we prefer to work together as a team. We encourage pair programming and run regular mob programming sessions. If you are allergic to working with and learning from other team members, this is not the job for you. On the other hand, if you thrive in an environment with focus on continuous learning and highly motivated co-workers Kontali will be a perfect fit.
